Family
This policy domain examines the legal recognition and protection of 2SLGBTQI families. It assesses whether same-sex couples can marry or enter into civil partnerships, adopt children, access assisted reproductive technologies or treatment, or be listed on their child’s birth certificate with their legal gender identity.
The Rainbow score for each province or territory in Canada is determined by the policies and laws currently in place in that jurisdiction, across four key domains: Equality & Nondiscrimination, Family, Gender Recognition, and Civil Society. Two additional domains - Hate Crimes and Hate Speech, and Asylum - are only applicable at the federal level.
